:: About Us ::
We are a school that teaches traditional Chinese Martial Arts (no modern Wu
Shu) in a relaxed and safe environment. Our goals are to preserve traditional
martial arts, prepare good martial artists and more importantly excellent human
beings. At the moment we only teach to people 15 or older
Tian Shan Pai
Tien Shan Pai is a well rounded fighting style. At the same time, it also contains
graceful empty-hand and weapons forms stressing rhythm and "inshou", the
demonstration of power accentuated by solid thuds made by the hands.
Tien Shan Pai self-defense is characterized by attacks from the side coupled with
multiple blocks, so that if one block fails, the second can cover. Footwork is
considered essential to countering attacks; Tien Shan Pai focuses on low, steady
steps to the side, along with swift "hidden" steps to trick the opponent.
Tian Shan Pai includes two person sets to develop sensitivity and fighting skills.
During the 1920's the republican government created a program to teach
traditional martial arts to the citizens of China.
They created the Central Martial Arts Academy in Nanjing (1928 - 1937). Many
masters were recruited to develop a curriculum to be taught to the students, the
goal of the academy was to build a strong nation. It taught arts like: Shuai Jiao,
Long Fist, Chin Na, Xingyi, Bagua Zhang, Tai Chi Chuan, Bajiquan among others.
One of the firs graduates was Grand Master Wang Jyne Jen who after the fall of
the republic, moved to Taiwan were his Tian Shan Pai style became quiet famous
in and out military circles.
Other Arts
We use modern methods of training combine with the applications of other
martial arts to round up our students skills. These include Muay Thai, Boxing
drills and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (note that we present this additions by their name,
making clear that we are not "creating" a new style (as other schools normally do).
The Chinese Martial Arts we teach are well rounded, the elements included are:
Forms
An artistic expression, a method to build stamina (as a sort of shadow boxing), a
controlled way to practice fundamentals and applications with or without a partner.
Weapons
They teach the use of objects as an extension of the body, helping in
strengthening it and familiarizing the practitioner with their use in self defense.
Chin Na
The term "Chin Na" in the Chinese language is translated into 2 separate words:
Chin "seize" and Na "control". From the definition then the term literally means to
seize and control. The major purpose of Chin Na is to attempt to quietly stop an
aggressor without permanently maiming or inflicting serious injury. This is
normally accomplished with knowledge of joint locks, grasping, pressing and
unnatural twisting of sensitive nerves, muscles and joints.
Chinese Boxing
It allows the practitioner to attack or defend in long to short range fighting.
Shuai Jiao
The word Shuai stands for "to throw onto the ground" and Jiao may have two
meanings; the first and oldest, stands for "horns" and the second and recent,
stands for "wrestle", so Shuaijiao literally means "to throw onto the ground using
"horns" or "to throw onto the ground through wrestling". It is considered my many
historians as the oldest extant martial arts within China, and perhaps the oldest
existing within the world. As a fighting art it incorporates limb control (joint locks,
bars and twists), chokes, footsweeps, throws, groundfighting and grappling
"Internal Arts"
Once we reach certain age, we will not be able to do the things we used to, this
does not necessarily mean we have to stop our practice. Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua
Zhang among others will allow us to continue training when we reach that point.
eventhough they are considered "internal" Bagua Zhang and Tai Chi Chuan are
martial arts and can be used in combat.
Sparring
The ultimate test for the advanced student in which he/she will put together the
tools given above and applied them in a unpredictable situation.
Lance Techniques, a gift from Master Hsi.
